What happened
Landlord applied for an order requiring the former tenant to pay rent arrears, unpaid utility bills, and damages caused by the tenant. The tenant vacated the rental unit on October 10, 2021 without providing proper notice.
The ruling
The former tenant is ordered to pay the landlord $16,132.96 in rent arrears, $8,114.21 in unpaid utility bills, and $201 for the application filing fee, for a total of $24,448.17. If the former tenant does not pay the full amount by December 8, 2023, they will owe interest at 7% annually on the outstanding balance.
