What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord altered the locking system on a door giving entry to the rental unit or residential complex without giving the Tenant replacement keys, substantially interfered with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit or residential complex by the Tenant or by a member of their household, and harassed, obstructed, coerced, threatened or interfered with the Tenant.

The ruling

The Landlord is required to pay the Tenant $8,211.15, which includes $867.36 for rent abatement, $2,820 for increased rent, $1,523.79 for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, and $3,000 in general damages. The Landlord must also pay an administrative fine of $10,000 to the LTB. The tenancy is terminated as of July 12, 2023.
