What happened
The Landlords applied for the termination of the tenancy and eviction of the Tenants due to significant rent arrears. The Tenants had previously been granted an adjournment to provide evidence of alleged payments but failed to submit any documentation by the hearing date. While the Tenants admitted to the arrears and cited permanent disability and issues with Ontario Works funding, the Landlords claimed financial distress and other tenancy issues.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective July 31, 2025. The Tenants may void the order by paying $5,220.43 by July 31, 2025. If they fail to pay and do not move out, they are ordered to pay the Landlord $1,666.20 (which accounts for the rent deposit and interest) plus daily compensation of $51.92 starting June 24, 2025.
