What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord gave a notice of termination in bad faith. The Landlord served the Tenants with an N12 notice of termination asserting that the Landlord and their spouse required the rental unit for their own personal use. After the Tenants vacated, the Landlord listed the unit for rent at a higher rate.

The ruling

The Tenants proved the Landlord served the N12 notice in bad faith. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $1,853 in general compensation and an administrative fine of $2,500 to the LTB.
