What happened
The Landlords applied for termination of the tenancy and eviction because the Tenants failed to pay rent. The Tenants raised issues regarding a previous rent increase and a $10,000 deposit paid toward a rent-to-own arrangement. The Board found the rent increase was now legal due to the passage of time and the rent-to-own deposit fell outside its jurisdiction.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective August 22, 2025, unless the Tenants pay $30,486.00 to void the order. If they do not pay, they must vacate by the termination date. If they fail to vacate, the Landlords are ordered a total of $26,642.15 (representing arrears to the hearing date minus payments) plus daily compensation of $151.23.
