What happened

The Landlord sought to terminate the tenancy in a care home setting because the Tenant failed to pay for mandatory meal services and obstructed bed bug remediation efforts. The Tenant claimed he was on a 'rent strike' due to the ongoing bed bug infestation and maintenance issues, despite the Landlord's attempts to provide pest control which the Tenant refused to facilitate to protect his belongings.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated effective August 10, 2025. The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $17,006.00 for unpaid meal services and the filing fee. Eviction is postponed until August 10, 2025, to allow the senior Tenant time to find alternative housing, given his limited income and the affordable nature of the current unit.
