What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenants due to significant rent arrears exceeding $23,000. Tenant 1 cited personal hardships including unemployment and the loss of multiple family members as reasons for the arrears. Tenant 2 proposed a payment plan and suggested bringing in new roommates to cover costs. The Landlord opposed the plan, arguing it was not viable given the high monthly rent and the Tenants' current financial status.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective September 16, 2025, unless the Tenants pay $27,049.00 to void the order. The Board denied the Tenants' proposed payment plan, finding it unfeasible. If the Tenants do not void the order, they must pay the Landlord $20,099.44 for arrears up to the hearing date and filing fees, plus daily compensation for continued occupation.
