What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring former tenants to pay rent arrears and compensation, as well as damages to the rental unit. The former tenants vacated the unit on January 28, 2023 but the landlord claimed rent was owed until the end of the lease term on April 30, 2023.

The ruling

The former tenants shall pay the landlord $5,129.69, which includes rent and compensation owed until the end of the lease term, less the last month's rent deposit and interest. The landlord's claim for damages was dismissed as the landlord failed to prove the former tenants caused undue damage.
