What happened

The Tenant filed an application after being illegally locked out of the rental unit by the Landlord. The Tenant arrived at the unit to find the locks changed. The Landlord admitted to changing the locks because the Tenant had not moved out as previously requested. The tenancy was a fixed-term agreement that had not been legally terminated.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to immediately restore possession of the rental unit to the Tenant and provide all necessary keys. The Landlord is prohibited from re-renting the unit. If the Landlord fails to comply, the Tenant is authorized to enlist the Court Enforcement Office (Sheriff) to enforce the order and regain entry.
