What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. The application listed numerous issues, including a broken storm door, non-opening windows, damaged kitchen and bathroom fixtures, a faulty dishwasher, and an unsafe backyard deck. The Board found that the Landlords failed to address many of these issues in a timely and effective manner after being notified.

The ruling

The Landlords are ordered to pay the Tenants a total of $2,634.03. This amount includes a rent abatement of $2,586.03 for the Landlords' failure to address numerous maintenance issues in a timely and effective manner, and $48.00 for the application filing fee. The Landlords may pay this amount directly or credit it against the Tenants' future rent payments for June and/or July 2025.
