What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord collected or retained money illegally. The Tenants alleged that the Landlord collected more than one month's rent deposit and did not apply the last month's rent deposit to the last month of the tenancy.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $9,083, which includes the pro-rated portion of the last month's rent deposit and the illegal charge collected. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by October 30, 2023, the Landlord will owe interest on the outstanding balance.
