What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to non-payment of rent. The Tenant requested an adjournment to challenge the revocation of his Rent Geared to Income (RGI) subsidy, which caused a significant rent increase. The Tenant had not paid rent since November 2023.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated unless the Tenant pays $4,399.00 by July 31, 2025. If the Tenant does not pay to void the order, he must vacate by July 20, 2025, and pay the Landlord $3,552.58 plus daily compensation of $29.79. The Adjudicator noted the Landlord cannot be expected to endure further arrears given the Tenant's long-standing failure to pay.
