What happened
Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenants due to failure to pay their portion (70%) of the utility bills between May 3, 2024 and July 30, 2024 totalling $822.95. The Landlord also claimed compensation for each day the Tenants remained in the unit after the termination date.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective March 18, 2025. The Tenants must pay the Landlord $10,382.30, less any rent payments made from September 5, 2024 to February 11, 2025, which includes compensation for use of the unit, unpaid utility costs, and application filing fees. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by March 18, 2025, they will owe interest at 5% annually on the outstanding balance.
