What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to substantial rent arrears. The Tenant admitted to the arrears but requested relief from eviction, explaining he had left his job to start a company and was experiencing temporary financial hardship while awaiting potential investors. The Landlord argued that the tenancy was no longer viable as the Tenant's current income was insufficient to cover rent and the possibility of future investment was speculative.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective August 10, 2025, unless the Tenant voids the order by paying $11,181.00 by July 31, 2025, or $13,381.00 by August 10, 2025. If the Tenant does not void the order, he is ordered to pay the Landlord $7,755.04 plus daily compensation of $72.33 from July 15, 2025, until he vacates the unit.
