What happened

The Landlords filed an application to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenants for non-payment of rent. One of the Tenants attended the hearing, acknowledging the debt but citing significant personal hardship as a single parent with three children, with their sole income from Ontario Works. The Landlords, despite the large amount of arrears, agreed to postpone the eviction date to assist the Tenant's family.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated unless the Tenant voids the order by paying either $22,236.00 by May 31, 2025, or $24,686.00 by June 20, 2025. If the order is not voided, the Tenant must vacate by June 20, 2025, and pay the Landlord $19,267.36 for arrears and costs, plus daily compensation of $80.55 from May 27, 2025, until they move out. The eviction date was postponed based on the Tenant's hardship and the Landlord's consent.
