What happened

Tenant filed a T2 application alleging the Landlord substantially interfered with her reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit, harassed her, and interfered with her vital services. The Tenant vacated the unit on June 11, 2021 due to a fire, and the Landlord did not properly terminate the tenancy. The Landlord claimed the tenancy was frustrated due to the fire and the unit being illegal.

The ruling

The Landlord shall pay the Tenant $8,537.39, which includes a rent abatement, compensation for increased rent, and moving expenses. The Landlord must pay the full amount by November 19, 2023, or will owe interest.
