What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to abandonment of the rental unit. The Landlord discovered the unit appeared abandoned on July 15, 2021, with the unit unlocked, mailbox overfilled, rotten food in the fridge, and the unit empty. The Tenant had not paid rent since May 2021 and was unreachable.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated due to abandonment. The Tenant is ordered to pay $186.00 to the Landlord for the cost of filing the application. If not paid by February 15, 2022, interest will be charged at 2.00% annually from February 16, 2022.
