What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The application included issues with mould in the kitchen cupboard, broken kitchen cupboards and drawers, a bathroom leak, and damaged parquet flooring.
The ruling
The Board ordered the Landlord to repair the kitchen cupboard under the sink, the bathtub leak, and the flooring outside the bathroom by June 30, 2018. The Landlord was ordered to pay the Tenants $350.00 for rent abatement and $50.00 for the application filing fee, totaling $400.00. If the Landlord fails to pay by June 11, 2018, the Tenants may deduct the amount from future rent payments.
