What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that Landlords altered the locking system on a door giving entry to the rental unit or residential complex without giving them replacement keys. Tenants claim they were locked out of the rental unit since September 7, 2021.
The ruling
The Landlords altered the locking system on the rental unit without providing the Tenants with replacement keys, which is a violation of the Residential Tenancies Act. The Tenants are awarded $2,319.69 for their actual and estimated reasonable out of pocket expenses, and the Landlords are ordered to immediately allow the Tenants to recover possession of the rental unit and provide them with keys.
