What happened
Landlord applied for an order to require Tenant to pay the rent that the Tenant owes. The Tenant was in possession of the rental unit on the date the application was filed, but had vacated the unit on March 31, 2022. The Tenant did not pay any rent for the period from May 12, 2021 to May 11, 2022.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective April 4, 2022. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $19,386.00, which includes rent arrears owing up to May 11, 2022 and the cost of the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by October 16, 2022, they will start to owe interest at 4% annually on the outstanding balance.
