What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlords have collected or retained money illegally. Tenant received an N12 notice to terminate the tenancy for the Landlords' own use of the rental unit, but was not paid the required compensation.

The ruling

The Landlords are ordered to pay the Tenant $2,253, which includes $2,200 in compensation for moving out of the rental unit and $53 for the filing fee. If the Landlords do not pay the full amount by January 21, 2022, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
