What happened
Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord harassed, obstructed, coerced, threatened or interfered with the Tenant and substantially interfered with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit or residential complex by the Tenant or by a member of the Tenant's household. The dispute relates to a lease renewal entered into in 2020, which had the effect of removing the Tenant from the tenancy agreement without her knowledge or consent.
The ruling
The Landlord substantially interfered with the Tenant's reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit by improperly terminating her tenancy without her unequivocal consent. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $4,000 in general damages and $48 for the cost of filing the application.
