What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord illegally locked the Tenant out of the rental unit. The Tenant sought to amend the application to seek only the remedy of returning the possession of the rental unit to the Tenant.

The ruling

The Board ordered the Landlord to restore possession of the rental unit to the Tenant by March 27, 2024. The Landlord is prohibited from re-renting the unit and must provide a replacement key to the Tenant. If the Landlord does not comply, the Tenant can file the order with the Court Enforcement Office to enforce it.
