What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord altered the locking system on the rental unit without providing replacement keys. The Landlord claimed the tenancy was frustrated due to a fire in the unit, but the Board found the unit was repairable and the Landlord unlawfully evicted the Tenants.
The ruling
The Board found the Landlord unlawfully evicted the Tenants by changing the locks and denying them the ability to reoccupy the unit after repairs were completed. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $6,011.24, which includes the rent differential for 12 months and the application filing fee.
