What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues in the dispute were related to an interruption of water and hot water services to the rental unit.

The ruling

The Landlord shall pay to the Tenant a rent abatement of $1,489.40 for the 55-day period of delay in restoring water services, and shall also pay the Tenant $50.00 for the cost of filing the application. The total amount the Landlord owes the Tenant is $1,539.40, which must be paid by October 10, 2020. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by that date, the Landlord will owe interest at 3.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
