What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord failed to meet maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues were with the washing machine and dryer provided by the Landlord.

The ruling

The Landlord failed to meet the obligations under the Act to repair or maintain the appliances supplied with the rental unit. The Landlord must compensate the Tenant for the cost of the new appliances and the technician fee, as well as provide a $250 rent rebate for the period the appliances were not functioning.
