What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards, and that the Landlord substantially interfered with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental units or residential complex by the Tenants. The issue was the Landlord's closure of the garbage chute in the apartment building.
The ruling
The Landlord shall pay to each Tenant the amount of $525.00 as compensation for the Landlord's failure to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations, substantial interference with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental units or residential complex by the Tenants, and reduction in services provided to the Tenants. The Landlord shall also pay to the Tenant representative (J.R.) the costs of filing the three multi-tenant applications.
