What happened
Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. Tenant withdrew the illegal rent portion of the application. Landlord failed to pay Tenant compensation for termination of the tenancy due to the Landlord's own use of the rental unit, as required by the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006.
The ruling
The Landlord did not pay the Tenant compensation of one month's rent as required under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 when terminating the tenancy for the Landlord's own use. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $900 in compensation.
