What happened
The Landlord applied for eviction and compensation for damages allegedly caused by the Tenant. The Tenant vacated the rental unit on November 30, 2024, prior to the hearing. Consequently, the Landlord withdrew the eviction request but continued to seek compensation for damages to a bathtub, stovetop, refrigerator, and a missing medicine cabinet door. The Tenant did not attend the hearing.
The ruling
The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $1,341.63. This amount consists of $1,188.56 for the cost to repair a damaged bathtub and $186.00 for the application filing fee, with a deduction of $32.93 for interest owed on the rent deposit. The Landlord's other claims for damages were dismissed due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The tenancy had already ended when the Tenant moved out on November 30, 2024.
